What's new?
The French Cinema Club is now open!
4 February 2010
At the Culture and Education Centre ‘Master Klass’ a brother to the English Cinema Club has appeared: now, we have a French Cinema Club, too! The mission of the French cinema club, as with the English Cinema Club, is the promotion of classical cinematography and assistance in learning the language. And, like its English colleague, the new cinema club is going to have a French-speaking host, and the customary film discussion afterwards (in Ukrainian, Russian and English). A version will also be shown in French with Russian or English subtitles. Our partner in organizing the running of the cinema club is the French Culture Centre, which has been active in Kyiv for more than 15 years.
The film topic for the first season of the club is the most popular genre of the French cinematography – comedy. Included in the programme are films by the famous directors Jaques Tati, Claude Lelouch and Jaques Dennis, and starring people such as Catherine Deneuve, Lino Ventura, Jaques Brel, Bernard Blier, Josiane Balasko and Pierre Darroussin. In March we are going to show a programme called ‘Women who make films!’ This will comprise not only films made by women e.g. the scandalous film ‘Bushwhacked (Gazon Maudit) shot by the actress and director Josiane Balasko, but will also tell about the life-paths and amazing fates of the fairer sex.
After the screening viewers will have the opportunity to discuss the film in French, which will be possible thanks to our French host. The discussions will take place in the cosy café at ‘Master Klass’.
You can find out more details about the programme of French Cinema Club in the section ‘Cinema Club’, or phone 594-10-63.
