Jazz Wednesdays by Oleksiy Kogan to be held at Master Klass

The series of concerts “The Theme with Variations. Live” resumes at Master Klass
In June 2010 the concerts from the series “The Theme with Variations. Live” will be resumed. The Culture and Education Centre Master Klass (34 Ivana Mazepy Street) has become the new place for holding Jazz Wednesdays by Oleksiy Kogan. The Centre is an old partner of the production centre “Jazz in Kiev”. Here, a great number of joint projects were implemented, ranging from jazz film shows and master classes by jazz stars during the autumn festivals “Jazz in Kiev”, to concerts from the series “Classics and Jazz”.
We remind that the jazz project by Oleksiy Kogan “The Theme with Variations. Live”, which was started 6 months ago has become a part of the cultural life of Kyiv throughout the 4 months of its existence (15 concerts have been held). In April the regular jazz concerts ended but the production centre “Jazz in Kiev” is glad to announce that the project loved by the fans of improvisatory music will return in a new place and format.
At the beginning of June the series of concerts “Chocolate Jazz” was held at Master Klass. The trio Shepeta-Gladetskiy-Volkov, the family duet of Oleksandra and Vitaliy Luzhetski “Majestic Duo”, the groups Ilya Yeresko Latin Quartet and Lush Life gave a performance within the framework of the concert. Based on this, the project “The Theme with Variations. Live” is being reloaded. The concert format has changed as Master Klass is not a club. During the month 3-4 concerts will take place in the hall near the Art Gallery (admission will be 30 hryvnias and the number of seats is limited), and once a month a big concert will be held in the Concert Hall of Master Klass (admission will be up to 100 hryvnias).
“The main purpose of the project “The Theme with Variations. Live” is to give an opportunity to Ukrainian musicians to meet more with listeners and present their authorial projects, and to allow the audience to enjoy qualitative music”, says Oleksiy Kogan about his project. Gradually, the attendance of our small concerts will increase. Already you can speak about them as an original members club that, for sure, will make the jazz life of Kyiv much more interesting”.
The decision to hold concerts on Wednesdays was not taken flippantly as the majority of Kyiv jazz lovers traditionally consider Wednesday as the best “jazzy day of the week”. On Wednesdays famous jazz evenings were held in the Dynamo Club (altogether 152 concerts took place), and then in the Al Capone Club (27 concerts), in the Arena Club (50 concerts), and in the Lapsha Jazz Restaurant (15 concerts). The production centre of festivals “Jazz in Kiev” and the Culture and Education Centre Master Klass expect that Jazz Wednesdays will encourage the formation of a jazz communication area which will be joined by Kyiv music lovers every week.
The concert schedule of the project “The Theme with Variations. Live” will be soon displayed on the websites www.jazzinkiev.com and www.masterklass.org. Next Wednesday, 30th June, the trio of, probably the most famous Ukrainian saxophonist Dmytriy “Bobin” Oleksandrov will give a performance. His partners will be the guitarist Oleksandr Pavlov and bassist Mykolay Kistenyev. The concert will begin at 8.00 p.m.
